Dependent

Skimming through a feed of a twitter search on the keyword SEPTA and one realizes just how many people are dependent on my local transit authority to get around. I think there's a tendency to see public transit as merely an option, an alternative. You can drive to work or you can drive to the park-n-ride and ride the train. But large numbers of transit users have no car and driving is not an option. People are rather upset about being unable to get to class or work. 275,000 daily trips on the two-line subway system alone. Some of those people have other options, but plenty don't.
