Restaurants charging surcharge for
nonexistent ACA requirements.
Eight locations of Gator's Dockside, a popular Florida casual dining restaurant chain, are charging a fee for Affordable Healthcare Act costs that haven't taken into effect yet.
The locations are adding a 1 percent "ACA Surcharge" to customers' bills, CNN Money reports.
The Gator Group runs eight locations, four in Jacksonville and others in Eustis, The Villages, Clermont, and Lakeland. The company claims the charge is to offset Affordable Care Act costs, but the employer mandate of Obamacare that will require Gator's Dockside and other employers to provide healthcare coverage to 70 of its full-time employees won't go into effect until 2015.
