Yglesias is right that public works should certainly be
part of a good progressive economic agenda. I know I've read numerous times that there's an incredible amount of costly deferred maintenance on bridges all over the country, and I doubt that's just because of the mighty PR apparatus of the Bridge Repair Lobby. Generally improving public services which have atrophied in lots of areas would make people happy.
