"An Act Of Patronage"

I know all us bloggers are supposed to be dumb and stoopid about how that complicated Washington world works, and we should just leave it all to our betters, but this is really quite incredible. Jay Carney would have us believe that an attempt to stack the US Attorney roster with loyal Republican hacks is all very innocent, and he seems not to understand what a patronage system is. It isn't simply handing out goodies to supporters because of past service, it's a system of putting loyalists into positions of power to reduce the possibility that, say, they might investigate you and increase the possibility they might investigate your political opposition.

These are the people who rule our elite discourse. Jeebus help us.
