Indeed, it was not all that long ago when Broderian trans-partisan fetishists were holding up that same oligarch as the ideal presidential candidate who would finally and single-handedly vanquish America's messy and unpleasant political disputes.

This has long been one of the weirdest thing about Villagers to me, that they long for the day when all political disagreement ends, along with the idea that it should be the overarching goal of any president. People disagree about stuff, and representative democracy is how we try to hash that out instead of shooting each other. Essentially what these people want is politics without the people, a Washington which could rule unfettered without the prying eyes of the great unwashed real people they profess to speak for.
