Five Years Of Madness

The hangover is still with us, but the drunk fever really lasted for five years. I'm glad I don't teach anymore. The Kids Today - college freshmen - were 4 to 5 years old on the day that George W. Bush Kept Us Safe. It was fourteen years ago. When I was a freshman, the fall of Saigon was fourteen years previous, and I didn't have any fucking idea what that was all about. I mean, I might have (don't even remember) had some vague idea what it was about, but no idea what it was about in 1975 when it happened. The point I'm trying to make is that we were a nation gone mad, much more than usual, for five years after the horrible events of 9/11, and it'd be pretty much impossible to explain that to people who didn't live through it. Knowing the facts isn't knowing the mood. I couldn't explain it to The Kids Today.
