Ouch

I thought they were only allowed to do stuff like this to Democrats.

Whiners

Keep running with that one. It's a winner!

Huggy Bear

Not sure I like the music, but otherwise it's good.

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I don't think this is the convention bump, I think it's the Palin bump.

Book Banning

I'd heard the librarian story, but missed the book banning angle.

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

When conservatives speak of freedom, what the hell are they talking about?

Alaskan Separatist

Colorful simile:

As part of their pushback against the charges of Lynette and Dexter Clark of the AIP, the McCain campaign says that Palin did not even attend the AIP convention in Wasilla in 1994.

...

For her part, Ms. Clark -- a self-employed gold miner who wants Alaska to become an independent nation -- says that the McCain campaign pushback that Pain was never part of the AIP is "hooey."

"This is like a cat covering up crap in its litter box," she says.

Deep Thought

Will Saletan really is a complete tool.

17-30

Silly Amanda, your uterus shrivels into a raisin on your 30th birthday, which coincides precisely with the moment that you become so hideous that no manfolk will touch you.

She

The shame of Swarthmore, Will Saletan, spends a very long time considering the possibility that some other candidate daughters may have gotten pregnant and then (no, really), got "rid of the mess." Typically, it never occurs to Will Saletan to think about the possibility that the penises of candidate sons may have "messed up," too.

Deep Thought

Tonight's speaking lineup is a clear attempt to repair the rift between the GOP and Droopy Dog-Americans.

Who's Running This Show?

The disclosures about the lack of vetting provide a view of the real John McCain, as opposed to the media created figure of the BBQ Master. He's fundamentally not interested in actually running things. Governance itself is boring. The presidency would just be a long pageant in his honor. The most observant and prescient line of this election was written by Digby:

John McCain is the man George W. Bush was pretending to be, right down to the flight suit.

No Rudy Tonight?

I might cry.

Thread

While atrios takes a shower, and waters the plants on the roof.

Morning Thread

I'm probably not up yet. Jonah Goldberg say anything stupid yet today?

Overnight

Rock on.

Late Night

Rock on.

Simple Answers To Simple Questions

K-Tee asks:

Would Sally Quinn write this if the candidate in question were the father, not the mother?

No.

This has been another edition of of simple answers to simple questions.

Going Forward

The Editors has the solution.
Remember MEChA?  Obama, al-Qaeda cat’s paw?  Sully’s fifth column?  It’s all here, folks, and it would be irresponsible not to speculate about the links between this and John McCain’s VC Manchurian Candidate problem.  The only thing McCain can do to fix the situation is to literally throw Gov. Palin under the wheels of a speeding bus and then recruit Jeff Gannon to replace her.  It’s the only way to keep this momentum going.

Chrome

I find Internet Explorer to be almost unusable, but curious what Google hopes to gain by challenging Firefox.
This time, Microsoft’s opponent is Google, a familiar foe. On Tuesday, Google will release a free Web browser called Chrome that the company said would challenge Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, as well as the Firefox browser.

Thanks

To all those with the keys who have been jumping in recently. Comments volume has exploded recently, and try as I might I just can't manage to be here every 70 minutes or so 20 hours per day.
