This Week In Wingnuttery

Just another example of conservatives pining for an imagined utopian past which, while might actually appeal to them at some levels (assuming they're Lord of the Manor), they really know nothing about.

Santorum And "Black"

Personally I lean towards it being the intended word, but it comes out of his mouth sufficiently garbled that if he wants to deny it I'll let it go and consider it to not have actually happened.

Similarly

For decades 'upward wage pressure' has been considered to be a bad thing.

Assholes

Aside from not having any idea what they're talking about, they're assholes.

Thursday Is New Jobless Day

+372k new lucky duckies.

Not too bad, though last week's was revised upwards to 386K.

Jobs

ADP estimate of private sector job growth is +325K.

Actual government number, which includes public sector jobs, comes out tomorrow.

So Much For The People's Paper

Still love Will, but when cost of fucking living raises are "outrageous," well, it's time to just go away.

Waste

Yes we waste a stupid amount of our GDP on various forms of 'health care administration,' mostly the equivalent of lighting money on fire, but I always think the important factoid to inject into health care conversations is we spend more, as a percent of GDP, public money than many countries in our usual peer group. And then lots of private money, too.

Good

Make it so.

Gov. Chris Gregoire on Wednesday said she'll put forward legislation to legalize marriage for gay and lesbian couples.

Shit Is Fucked Up And Bullshit

I'm curious how many people have, during this crisis, cashed out their meager pensions (at great penalty) to try to stumble along for a little while longer before some banksters come along to steal their homes.

Basically almost everybody in this country is one nontrivial medical event or extended period of involuntary unemployment (yes, Chicago economists, such things exist) away from, at best, hitting the reset button and going back the beginning. It doesn't have to be that way.

Maybe A Time For A Taser?

No I don't know the specifics of this and I have no reason to think the police did anything inappropriate, but it's just a reminder that tasers were originally sold as a substitute for potentially lethal weapons, yet they don't seem to be used for that purpose.

Take To The Skies

I've wondered before why ski lift type things weren't given more consideration for site appropriate urban transport. There are possibly very good reasons, just don't know what they are.

CFPB

The AP and the twitter machine tell me that Obama's going to recess appoint Cordray to the CFPB today.
