The Best He Can Do Is To Suppose That They Are Like Himself.

We know how Trump sees people. You're a garbage person like he is, or a mark. But the Trump era is revealing just how common this view is.

There are pieces of this worldview I don't get. Why do all these garbage people bother hanging out with other humans, who are also garbage people? If I thought that way I'd just go hang in my hermitage. More generally, how do garbage people get along with each other so well?

There Is No Such Thing As Just Enough Money

Fall fundraising NOTSOFUNSTRAVAGANZA Day 2! Thanks to all.

All Men Are Moral. Only Their Neighbors Are Not.

Getting tired of crime being legal. End this Purge.

In a photo posted to social media last week, a young man wearing a mask with Orange County congressional candidate Michelle Steel’s name on it is holding a mail ballot and giving a thumbs up next to a box about the size of a file cabinet labeled “Official ballot drop off box.” The post, from Jordan Tygh, a regional field director for the California Republican Party, encouraged people to message him for “convenient locations” to drop their own ballots. The problem is the drop box in the photo is not official – and it could be against the law.
Thread on how this might be dumber - but still no less illegal - than it sounds.

The Big Money

One reason I'm more cynical than I used to be is that in the early aughts and later, "we" showed that small donor fundraising was a viable path for people. More than that, given that contribution limits are about the only thing left in our campaign finance laws, there is actually a limit to how well you can do by mostly relying on big donors. The surprising lack of interest in this - not lack of interest in the small donor money, but the lack of using it to be freed from constraints created by focusing in big donors - was depressing.

Anyway, it's more true now than ever. There's a fundraising model, perhaps even an easier one, that doesn't require the whales to keep maxing out.

South Carolina Senate candidate Jaime Harrison's campaign announced Sunday it raised $57 million in the third quarter of 2020, shattering the quarterly fundraising record for a Senate race set by Beto O'Rourke in 2018 by almost $20 million.

Seems Bad

Horrible for each individual, of course, but also what is it doing to the entire country long term... Going to be a lot of regrets.

It’s becoming known as Covid brain fog: troubling cognitive symptoms that can include memory loss, confusion, difficulty focusing, dizziness and grasping for everyday words. Increasingly, Covid survivors say brain fog is impairing their ability to work and function normally.

The Gorilla Channel Is Real

Someone on twitter suggested that it was, in fact, John Barron who leaked this story to Maggie and I have never been more convinced of the truth of anything.

FALL FUNDRAISING NOTSOFUNSTRAVAGANZA

Gotta admit it, folks, no malarkey, not much of All This has seemed very fun for awhile! Sure we can laugh at the latest exploits of fictional character Fuckface von Clownstick, but sometimes they seem just a bit too real.

Quarterly fundraising time. No need. This website will continue to be free. But if you have extra and find this place gives you some... well,... not joy, precisely, but something, consider giving some if your movie ticket money. Not like you're buying any movie tickets right now! Har dee har har.

Cash On The Oval Office Desk

From the beginning I've said that while it's absurd to think of the US federal government as not having a corruption problem - the things which purport to "measure" such things just define US corruption away - we didn't have a "put sacks of cash on the president's desk" problem.

Managing to keep that taboo has been a victory, and it was inevitable that Trump would smash it because he's too dumb for the more complicated legal corruption that was easily available to him and his people (though they have been learning that, too).

In Our Own Base Killin' Our Own D00dz

It's been an interesting electoral strategy.

Robbed

This would have been the greatest moment in human history.

In several phone calls last weekend from the presidential suite at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Mr. Trump shared an idea he was considering: When he left the hospital, he wanted to appear frail at first when people saw him, according to people with knowledge of the conversations. But underneath his button-down dress shirt, he would wear a Superman T-shirt, which he would reveal as a symbol of strength when he ripped open the top layer. He ultimately did not go ahead with the stunt.

Tired of this nonsense.

Trumptown

Exciting!!

On Saturday, Trump will speak to a crowd gathered by conservative activist Candace Owens, whose Blexit Foundation encourages Black Americans to leave the Democratic Party. His speech is being billed as “Remarks to Peaceful Protesters for Law & Order,” according to an invitation. He’ll address the crowd from the Truman Balcony off of the Blue Room, a large state room on the main floor of the White House. More than two thousand guests have been invited, according to a person familiar with the event.
