Another Iraqi success story in the making

The interim president of Iraq offered amnesty to insurgents today and warned them that a "very sharp sword" (as in "Off with his head!") would be used against those who continued to threaten the lives of the Iraqi people.

Al-Yawer, whose post as president is largely ceremonial, said during a news conference that insurgents could no longer wage attacks under the guise of resistance to an occupying power, since the United States transferred sovereignty two weeks ago.

``The occupation is over now,'' he said. ``We want to tell anyone who wants to threaten the security of this country: 'Enough.' I say, 'Enough. Stop.'''

Who's going to fall for this tough guy rhetoric coming from someone who wields little or no power? He's been taking lessons from certain people who need no introduction. And we all know how successful they've been.

By the way, how's the amnesty program in Saudi Arabia working out?
