I think this
post by Jeralyn provides some perspective which has been missing from a lot of the conversation. The "little guys" in the Plame investigation have been largely ignored, but they're also the ones who will have the most incentive to flip if there's flipping to be done. The upper level guys will always have the full support of the massive conservative machine behind them, both money and the propaganda arms, but the little guys would likely just be cut loose.
