Us and Them

I'm too young to really have any sense of the pre-Clinton era Democratic party, and so I really don't know whether the contemporary descriptions of it, which generally sound like they came from the desk of Mickey Kaus, have any truth to them. But if we assume for sake of discussion that they have merit, it really does seem like the current Republican party is suffering from the same problem. They've knit together a rather bizarre coalition of interest groups which has diverse vast set demands which all need to be embraced simultaneously. Additionally, it seems like even as candidates turn themselves into pretzels trying to please them all, the voters - even Republican voters - are starting to move past this dated agenda.

The one trump card they may still have is their support for those who are sufficiently enthusiastic about killing all the "bad guys." And that's Rudy!
