I'm another who never understood most of the
hate directed at Borders. I never lived in a world where there were dozens of awesome independent bookstores. I lived in a world where there were a few crappy independent bookstores, but mostly there were really crappy chain mall bookstores. Borders, and to a lesser extent Barnes and Noble, replaced crappy chain bookstores with pretty damn good chain bookstores.
