It is weird remembering that for a time Los Angeles might have even surpassed New York as the ZOMGDONTGOOUTSIDEYOU'LLGETMURDEREDINSTANTLY place in the popular consciousness, though people who didn't know LA tended to get a bit confused when those SCARY NEIGHBORHOODS looked much like familiar suburbia.
Crime dropped in New York City too, of course, but it still looks scary.
