In Their Shoes

I'm not sure when columnist for an elite newspaper became a kind of tenured position, such that people who have them either have or believe they have lifetime lucrative jobs, that they've achieved a level of financial security that won't ever leave them. Success of this sort doesn't corrupt everyone, but it does lead to too many of them writing about how the real poors are people who earn "only" 250 grand in New York City, or whatever.

The number of people suffering from constant economic in insecurity in this country is huge. There's no reason that should be the case in the rich, greatest, awesomest country in the history of civilization.
