When different parties control different bits of government, our system does require "compromise" and "working together" and "some people not being total assholes."
But there is no need for a deal for its own sake. Certainly 10 Republicans have no interest in doing it, even if maybe 3 would. Also, as the wise man said, "fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.”
