Political journalists love the drama, of course. It's their comfort zone. There are personalities and conflict but they don't think they have to do the messy business of actually explaining policy consequences. Republicans love it because they can propose cutting (almost) EVERYTHING and then pretend that means they aren't somehow cutting anything (it is DISHONEST to saw we are cutting things for Veterans, we are not targeting them! just everybody!).
And while it isn't quite as awesome as flag draped coffins or a bipartisan commission on debt reduction, with a little luck it could lead to both!
