Apocrypha

I am no New Testament scholar (I'm mostly a dumdum about this stuff, though I probably know more about it than your typical US Evangelical Protestant), but one amusing thing about Renaissance Art is how much Apocrypha creeps in. Gospel of James stuff is big!

This is your random art thought of the day.

Smug

A weird thing (there are many) about the "gentrification" and "millennials live in the urban hellholes now!" narratives is that riding the damn bus is talked about as some sort of elitist activity.

I love buses. They are wonderful. They take me where I need to go. They are not elitist. They are buses.

Winning

Given my general knowledge of such things (I know nothing of the specifics) I am sure practically no money is involved here, but this is still important.

Progressive radio and television personality Sam Seder will be offered his MSNBC contributor job back and plans to accept, according to multiple MSNBC sources.

New Phone Who Dis

Maybe somebody finally managed to get through to Trump that the morning Fox&Friends rage tweets might be a bad idea.

...oh he did tweet something but it was harmless. Cuck!

We All Deserve A Second Chance

This organization is the best of us.

For many pedophiles, it’s impossible to make ends meet. These sex criminals are often shunned both socially and professionally, making it extremely difficult for them to find any sort of gainful employment. But now a group called the GOP is trying to change all that: This amazing organization helps disgraced pedophiles rebuild their lives by getting them elected to political office.

If that doesn’t lift your spirits, we don’t know what will.

While most Americans are openly disgusted by pedophiles, the bighearted people over at the GOP seek to help them find decent, well-paying jobs where they can shape national policy. You only need to look at the amazing work the GOP is doing with pedophile Roy Moore in the special U.S. Senate election in Alabama to know that this organization is looking out for the people society tries to put in the margins.

Life is Weird

Wednesday Night

Good guess, at least.

I Read The News Today Oh Boy

The Al Franken decade is over.

A Democratic official who has spoken to Al Franken and key aides says Franken will resign his Minnesota Senate seat on Thursday, the official tells MPR News.

When In The Course Of Human Events

Hey I still remember that from 4th grade. In 1st grade I memorized some poem about evil mice but that was in German (Schwiizertüütsch - when in I lived in Switzerland) and I don't remember that.

Afternoon Thread

Time flies.

The Liberal Arts

This is a banal point made by a billion others before me, but teaching people how to enjoy the variety that life has on offer is a good thing. I'm not a cultural snob. I don't really care what people like. But giving people the framework to let them enjoy many things is a nontrivial point of education.

Technology Is Weird

I'm glad I rescued my computer from its recent crash. It's a good computer. It was on the higher end back when I bought and newer ones, while certainly cheaper now, don't seem to be much better. There's no real reason to "upgrade."

It also occurs to me that the next computer I buy likely won't have a CD/DVD drive. Sure you can get an external one for change these days, but that's a nuisance. I'm a weirdo who still buys CDs sometimes (at shows, especially, that's how The Kids These Days make their money), and even though I just rip them so I can play them on my 12-year-old iPod (still works! Apple did one thing right, though I pray to a God I don't believe in every time I load iTunes), and I don't really have anything to "play" them on other than my computer.

Gonna have to buy a turntable, I guess. "Turntable" is a weird word.

Time For A Blogger Ethics Panel

All this time I've had more ethics than all the major publications.

I get offers like this, too. I thought they were beneath this sucky blog. I probably would run a "sponsored post" type thing if someone offered me enough money but it would be clearly marked.

Omnishambles

My little red second passport gives me a selfish interest in this, but aside from that...I have no idea how this is going to work. I don't mean "is Brexit a good idea or a bad idea" I mean...how is it going to work. The people in charge have no idea. It's made UK politics as dumb as ours, and that's amazing!

Morning Thread

Adding a little lesson on the days of the week. Atrios seems confused. This should clear it right up.

Saturday Night

It's best if we just pretend we don't know what day it is. Rock on!

Tuesday Night Holiday Shopping

I recommended this book before, but not enough of you have read it yet.

Every now and then a book rearranges your brain. This is one of those books!
