Automation

It's all like this.
Amazon is phasing out its checkout-less grocery stores with “Just Walk Out” technology, first reported by The Information Tuesday. The company’s senior vice president of grocery stores says they’re moving away from Just Walk Out, which relied on cameras and sensors to track what people were leaving the store with.

Just over half of Amazon Fresh stores are equipped with Just Walk Out. The technology allows customers to skip checkout altogether by scanning a QR code when they enter the store. Though it seemed completely automated, Just Walk Out relied on more than 1,000 people in India watching and labeling videos to ensure accurate checkouts. The cashiers were simply moved off-site, and they watched you as you shopped.

Already Did

Bibi said it was a big whoopsie. They didn't mean to kill the people they targeted with repeated strikes, just a guy that wasn't there.

Jesus Trump

I know Bannon's full of shit about everything, but I don't know whether this type of thing is something that a typical MAGA believes or not.

No Red Lines, Bibi

If the bar is "maybe there is a guy there" then there is no bar. No international aid operation can function.

Nothing New

Israel just did to WCK what they've been doing to UNRWA for months. There's just a 10% greater chance someone important might not pretend not to believe it and instead get annoyed by it.

They Were All Hamas

Will be "hilarious" watching State pretend a US citizen isn't one. They have done it before.
World Central Kitchen is devastated to confirm seven members of our team have been killed in an IDF strike in Gaza.

The WCK team was traveling in a deconflicted zone in two armored cars branded with the WCK logo and a soft skin vehicle.

Despite coordinating movements with the IDF, the convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza on the maritime route.

“This is not only an attack against WCK, this is an attack on humanitarian organizations showing up in the most dire of situations where food is being used as a weapon of war. This is unforgivable,” said World Central Kitchen CEO Erin Gore.

The seven killed are from Australia, Poland, United Kingdom, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, and Palestine.

When Blogging Isn't Fun

Things are much easier when, roughly speaking, "Democrats good, Republicans bad" is the state of affairs. It's never precisely that, of course, but it's occasionally close enough. Often people accuse me of only wanting to criticize Democrats, but I was Dark Brandon's biggest fan for about the first 1.5 years of the presidency. There's nothing I would enjoy more than spending my days unleashing sick burns on the MAGA weirdos and clapping for the latest beneficence from the Great And Glorious Thousand Year Biden Reign.

It's a bit tough when this is what we continue to support  and 75% of The Discourse is yelling at people unhappy about that.

I realize my feelings are not important in the scheme of things.

Crazy Like A Fox

I don't know what he believes, or if he has some grand long term plan (cunning or not), but he has convinced a lot of people both that this is basically true and that it's relevant.
“They could have been paid back,” he said, sounding almost incredulous that it hadn’t been done yet. “There were enough assets, there are enough assets to pay back all customers, all creditors in full at current prices, at prices at the time, with interest.”

The scale of Bankman-Fried’s delusion was breathtaking. Whatever set of figures he was working from bore no resemblance to the reports of prosecutors, forensic accounts, and bankruptcy lawyers. Perhaps he knew what was in his disordered financial empire better than anyone—or maybe he would lie for as long as he could, insisting that while he was responsible, he had just made some “bad decisions.” The central article of his delusive management regime at FTX was always that things could have been fixed—if only people had listened and given him more time.
This was Michael Lewis:
Late in the book, you talk about trying to find where the lost billions of FTX customer deposits, before concluding that most of it wasn’t actually lost in the first place: “Where did all that money go? The answer? Nowhere. It was still there.” Can you explain this to me? If we are now at $8.6 billion in customer deposits lost, Mr. John Ray [who was brought in as FTX CEO after its collapse] has actually collected, as he claims, $7.3 billion of liquid assets. And he has not sold a lot of the VC [venture capital] portfolios. I’ve interviewed a couple traders who actually think they might get 100 cents on the dollar. I think this is a really interesting thing that has not gotten enough attention: how much of the money is still there.
He slides quickly from "it was still there" to a somewhat less confident claim, but he basically believes that SBF would've figured out how to cover his losses if he had a bit more time and that this is somehow important.

Medical Racism

This one is pretty amazing - a simple fudge factor implemented for black patients which put them at a disadvantage for receiving diagnoses/kidney transplants.
The eGFR, or estimated glomerular filtration rate, evaluates kidney health based on how quickly a waste compound called creatinine gets filtered from blood. Because of a long-ago false theory about differences in creatinine levels, many lab reports until recently often would list two results — one calculated for non-Black patients and another for Black patients that could overestimate kidney function by as much as 16%.

It's All Trash Now

Once upon a time the internet had some funny April 1 jokes, then it was filled with unfunny April 1 jokes, and now it's just filled with AI nonsense which might or might not be jokes - who can tell?

Sure Why Not

All those "confused" cars stalled out in various key points in Manhattan is going to be hilarious.
City officials said Thursday that they would begin to permit operators to test drive autonomous autos on New York City streets, in an announcement that divided street safety advocates.
