The British government has less than a month to make a concession on the Brexit bill in order to guarantee launching trade talks in December, the Guardian understands.
Senior officials in Brussels say talks have stalled since Theresa May’s Florence speech and warn the EU will find it difficult to agree to trade talks at a December summit unless the prime minister offers more on the Brexit divorce settlement.

On The Whole A Good Night
Was out watching some fancy opera so Eschaton Election Coverage couldn't be very comprehensive. Trumpkins love the full racist Trump, but enough other Trump voters aren't all that into it. Gillespie was going to set set the stage for a thousand mini-Trump campaigns, but that plan doesn't seem as foolproof as it did. Savvy pundits tend to equate winning with good, so I was prepared for the CW to be ACTUALLY, racism is good now. You silly liberals with your "racism is bad" why do you hate America?

This is observation, not complaint, but there are times when I have reason to sympathize with the great mass of flyover country (wherever that actually is these days), over lack of sustained media coverage about anything. The truth is the only places that really get sustained national media coverage are New York and DC. L.A. gets coverage but only as entertainment news. New Jersey (northern) and Connecticut (western) get outsized coverage due to being in the orbit of NYC, and Virginia and Maryland also do because of their proximity to DC. Little ignored Pennsylvania is close to them both but not close enough, but is the 6th largest state with the 6th largest (only because Phoenix is like 10,000 sq. miles) city by population. A governor's race in Maryland will get more national media attention than a governor's race in Pennsylvania. Other states and cities get disproportionate coverage, relative to size, for reasons other than some pretense at geographical representation that I don't quite understand.

Confess Your Unpopular Opinion
The Obamacare "mandate" is unnecessary and to the extent that it is necessary (it isn't) it's too toothless anyway. Make the carrot sweet enough and you don't need the stick. All the panicking about "destabilizing markets" (does anyone who says this even know what it means?) is silly. Most people will buy health insurance if you make it decent enough and affordable enough. The ones who won't are the people who are flaking on life generally (Not judging, people flake on life for various reasons sometimes. Life is a pain in the ass!). They're the people who neglect to file their taxes. Its supposed necessity comes from people who are privileged enough to not get that "not having health insurance" is a big enough stick for most people.

I think Brexit is dumb, but that's not saying that everything about the EU is Good (though mostly it's the ECB that's Bad and the UK isn't a part of that). Still it's not insane to think that leaving the EU is, on balance, good, or that it could be at least. What is insane is that the people running the UK - and the Brexit process - right now are completely incompetent. They really don't know what they are doing. They don't want to listen to people who tell them "this is going to be hard" even if they follow it up with "but we can figure out how to do this." They want to have all of the benefits of EU membership minus free mobility of persons. They want to treat long term EU residents of the UK like shit while demanding all those UK retirees in Spain are treated well. They have no clue about the rest of it, which is actually the hard stuff. The clock is ticking and in March 2019 everything is going to break and most of the people in the UK are going to have no clue why. And most of the people in the EU won't give a shit, because why should they?

One "amusing" thing about our ridiculous gun non-debate is that the people who are most likely to call for more guns everywhere all the time are the same people who defend "stop and frisk" policies.
What are stop and frisk policies for? I mean, what are you going to find on a person? The stolen Ice Princess Diamond? You might find guns or drugs. That's it.
Basically, these people think white people should own guns and it should be illegal for black people to own guns. You'd have to be nuts to be a black person and open carry even where it's legal, because someone (cop or not) will kill you.
